OUR HISTORY: VEE JAY RECORDS

Overflow Coffee (Chicago's South Loop) is the former home of Vee-Jay Records on Chicago's historical Record Row.

Vee-Jay Records was the largest Black-owned record company in the world (who not only released the first Beatles album in the US, but also boasted the legendary Jimi Hendrix as the guitarist for Little Richard during his time with Vee-Jay).

Our evening music series, Overflow After Dark was birthed out of the spirit and soul of Vee-Jay Records. We exist to provide artists and entrepenuers with a space where ideas will flow, friendships will form, connections will be made, problems will be solved, businesses will grow, art will be made, and great coffee will be served.

OUR HISTORY: BRUNSWICK RECORDS

This very location 1449 S Michigan Avenue was the address of Vee Jay Records that went out of business in 1967 and was converted into Brunswick new A&R office.

Many noteable artists came out of Bunswick record such as The Chi-Lites, The Lost Generation, Jackie Wilson, etc.

Our space exists to be a safe haven for artists from both Vee Jay & Brunswick and other labels in Record Row to host events and revist the spae where they cut some of their first records.
